![]() Is there any hope that Citrix provides a smoother remote desktop experience? Or would any improvements be incremental? I have seen YouTube videos where people are remotely using computers with dual 4k resolution displays and apparently no lag, so I know it can be done.but I don't know if that's Citrix or something else. All I know is it will require installing software on my personal device, and they say it'll run in a web browser. I can't get an answer about how this will perform because the tech people I'm able to talk to are too low level. Now IT is giving people the option to use "Citrix" on their personal devices. I suspect the corporate VPN endpoint is just too slow and was never designed for this many people remote working, plus most people are just doing basic stuff like writing emails so they're not really impacted as bad. Coincidentally I looked at my router logs and see that while using RDP, my bandwidth barely reaches one or two Mbps (I don't recall the exact #'s) even though I have a 300/30 meg internet connection that can easily stream multiple 4k Netflix shows. It's enough that I have written custom scripts to download data to the laptop overnight so I can use it locally, and then I upload my results the next night. In theory that's all great, except the performance is HORRENDOUS! I only get a low-res blurry desktop screen, and what's worse, there's a very noticeable lag before keyboard/mouse input is registered. They gave me a laptop for this, and I have to connect to the network using Cisco Anåonnect VPN. Since I work with a lot of data stored on networked file servers, and need a fast connection to that data, I have been remoting into my computer at the office using RDP (the office computer has a fast ethernet connection to the fileservers). I work at a large organization that was caught off guard by covid and WFH. Remote Desktop s really laggy and barely uses available bandwidth. TLDR: Company is replacing Windows Remote Desktop with "Citrix" for people WFH who need to operate a computer at the office.
